Teen Backpacking & Pack Rafting Trip

An epic adventure awaits! Our journey begins at the start of the International Appalachian Trail in the Katahdin Woods and Water National Monument where we will hike for three days, traversing two moderate sized mountains and roughly 20 miles of trail. We will then meet up with Packraft Maine and start the next leg of our journey that same afternoon. During this second part of the week we will make our way down part of the East Branch of the Penobscot River. Along our way we will experience a portion of the river that Thoreau and his Wabanaki guide once traveled in 1857. The paddling section will include portages around major waterfalls but we will see some Class II rapids that we will navigate safely alongside our packraft guide, Alex. Most of the paddling will be Class I, moving flat water which will be perfect for (hopefully) wildlife spotting.

This trip is great for teens ages 14-17 who are looking for a challenging and exciting wilderness expedition. Teens should have the ability to hike with a 40 pound pack and have had previous camping and hiking experience as we will be carrying all our gear to support us for five days in the wild. As with all our trips we invite everyone to help create a supportive community environment by participating in meal prep/clean up, group gear carry and to embrace the Leave No Trace principles.

An email will be sent to participants with packing list and exact times of departure and arrival in Freeport.
